Session Description
In this ever-increasing complex regulatory environment we try to practice in, responding to requests for medical records seems like it should be easy.  However, there are requirements that healthcare providers must pay attention to in order to avoid potential pitfalls and liability.  Hear from healthcare attorney Diane Robben on an overview of the applicable laws and regulations that provide the framework of when, how and what you should be doing in order to maintain compliance.  Also, we will discuss recommended best practices to ensure your practice is in compliance through recommended checks and balances.

Learning Objectives
  1. How to evaluate whether an executed authorization signed by the patient is in compliance with applicable HIPAA regulations and laws.
  2. Who can request copies of medical records and can we charge for them?
  3. Recommended best practices to ensure compliance and avoid potential liability.
