This session will outline how medical groups can leverage group purchasing organizations (GPO’s) to drive down their costs and streamline their purchasing process. We will explore how GPO’s work, the difference in committed and un-committed models, the relationship GPO’s have with medical supply distributors, and how to determine the GPO that will bring the most value to your practice. Real case studies will outline the actual savings of various sized groups across numerous specialties and the spend categories where a group purchasing organization brought value and delivered tangible savings.

About the Speaker:
Brennan O’Brien is Vice President, Business Development for MGMA’s BestPrice program. Brennan delivers value to the MGMA by supporting members’ role to lower supply and operating costs to improve financial performance for physician offices, clinics and surgical facilities. Brennan has worked in the healthcare procurement and supply chain industry for 20 years as a distributor with PSS (now McKesson), Cardinal Health and two of the three largest national group purchasing organizations. He now supports the MGMA BestPrice program through MGMA’s new channel partnership with HealthTrust’s (HPG) AdvantageTrust program. Brennan has a BS from Florida State University and an MBA from Drexel University. Brennan has worked closely with hundreds of medical facilities to achieve significant savings across multiple categories of spend.
